Pick at the pops: 31 October 2006

Our weekly round-up of the weird and wonderful world of pop music...
The bunting is up this week to commemorate McFlys sixth No.1. Thats sixth. Were they still in the womb for the first? Star Girl crashes straight in at the top at the first attempt, crushing this columns prediction of a nailed-on No.1 for Girls Aloud. Sorry.
Fans of scantily clad popstresses can console themselves with the news that the V&A Museum in London is hosting the Kylie exhibition next year, where pride of place will be given to the legendary gold lame hotpants sported by Ms Minogue in the Spinning Around video. Who says British culture is dumbing down? This is an essential public service.
Across the pond comes the announcement that Britney Spears second son has been named Jayden James. Enough of the silly names, Britters, you mustve won the bet by now.
Slightly more active than Britney in the music world is the late Kurt Cobain, who has been confirmed as the richest dead pop star on the planet. I assume hes still on the planet. Kurt raked in $50m in the last year, knocking Elvis off his perch in the process. Fisticuffs in Rock Heaven, Id say; my moneys on the fat one.
On an entirely unrelated note, Duran Duran tell us that guitarist Andy Taylor has left the band. Again. Apparently, an unworkable gulf has grown between them. Not even Simon Le Bons girth can bridge this one.
